The MGW X-Spec Shifter is engineered for 2015 and newer Mustang GT models featuring the MT-82 transmission, aiming to provide an even more drastic reduction in shift throw. This model offers up to a 25% reduction in shift length over the stock shifter, delivering a more direct and engaging feel. For those seeking the absolute shortest throw, the X-Spec is the recommended choice. The X-Spec shifter can be paired with a Low Profile handle option, which further enhances the throw reduction, whether you choose the Standard or X-SPEC shifter. The precise throw reduction varies depending on the specific handle and shifter configuration. For example, the X-SPEC model with the Low Profile handle achieves a 2.625-inch throw with a 25% reduction, while the X-SPEC with a Standard handle offers a 2.765-inch throw with a 21% reduction. Installation of the MGW Race Spec shifter, including the X-Spec variant, requires a specific setting procedure outlined in their installation videos. Failure to complete this procedure will result in the shifter not functioning properly. The updated design for 2016 and later models is more compact, allowing for full assembly inside the car's oval cutout, which can reduce installation time by at least 30 minutes. MGW also offers an optional shift knob adapter with an M12 x 1.25 thread size, specifically for 2005-2022 Mustang GT/V6/Ecoboost and 2007-2009 GT500, or M12 x 1.75 for older Mustang models and T56 Magnum XL transmissions.
