The ZZP Performance XP-RPM camshaft is engineered to extract maximum performance from your 3800 engine, particularly in supercharged or nitrous applications. ZZP emphasizes that their custom-designed lobes achieve higher horsepower and torque than competing brands with comparable lift and duration specifications. The XP-RPM model is specifically noted for its tighter manufacturing tolerances, which enhance valvetrain stability at high RPMs, a common area where standard camshafts can experience lobe flutter and power loss. This particular grind features a duration of 212°/224° at .050" lift, with an intake lift of .325" (yielding .520" lift at a 1.6:1 rocker ratio) and an exhaust lift of .335" (yielding .536" lift at a 1.6:1 rocker ratio). The lobe separation angle is 116°. Compared to the VS cam, the XP-RPM allows for the use of a smaller pulley and achieves peak power approximately 200 RPM higher, making it a popular choice for top swaps and GT bottom-end builds. Installation of the XP-RPM camshaft requires several supporting modifications for optimal performance and reliability. ZZP highly recommends using 136# Comp Cams valve springs, ZZP modified retainers, and LS7 lifters. Additionally, ZZP custom pushrods are advised, and a ZZP Pushrod Length Checker is recommended to ensure correct length. A Rollmaster double timing chain, extra thick front cover gasket, and a machined oil pump cover are also suggested components for a complete build.
